Preji Somar brings a unique dual perspective to mental health care, combining over 16 years of experience as a licensed professional therapist with more than 10 years as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. This comprehensive background allows her to offer both psychotherapy and medication management, providing truly integrated care that addresses the whole person. Her educational journey reflects this holistic approach, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas, followed by a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Abilene Christian University, and culminating in a Master of Science in Family Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at Austin.

Preji’s clinical experience spans multiple healthcare settings and patient populations, from her early work as a Licensed Professional Counselor at Acadia Psychiatric Center and Timberlawn Mental Health Systems to her current role as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Sante Center for Healing, where she has served since 2015. Her background also includes valuable experience as a pharmacy technician, which provides her with deep insights into medication management and patient safety considerations. This diverse foundation has equipped her with expertise in treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, PTSD, and addiction disorders.

Currently serving as a Professor at Midwestern State University since 2018, Preji combines clinical practice with academic leadership, training the next generation of mental health professionals. Her scholarly interests include the prevention and treatment of PTSD, differential assessment of bipolar disorder and substance use disorders, and the influence of diet on mental illness. She has developed innovative plans for integrated mental health systems and maintains expertise in the administration and interpretation of diagnostic psychological testing.

Her approach to treatment recognizes that mental health is influenced by multiple interconnected factors, from genetics and family dynamics to environmental circumstances and personal experiences. This comprehensive understanding allows her to develop personalized treatment plans that may include psychotherapy, medication management, or a combination of both, depending on each individual’s unique needs and preferences.
